02 Audits, reviews & compilations

Your bank asked for financial statements. Which kind?

The level of assurance you need is often dictated by your bank or other stakeholders. Here is how the three engagements compare.

Audit

Highest level of assurance

What we do
A methodical, objective examination of your financial statements: a review of internal controls, testing of selected transactions, and written confirmation with your customers, banks, vendors and attorneys.
The report
Our report states whether the statements are fairly stated and free of material misstatement.
Often needed for
Bank covenants, government grants, absentee owners, or the purchase or sale of a business.

Review

Limited assurance

What we do
Analytical procedures applied to your financial statements plus inquiries of your management team, without verifying data with third parties.
The report
"We are not aware of any material modifications" needed for conformity with GAAP.
Often needed for
A middle ground: a CPA’s technical expertise without the work and expense of an audit.

Compilation

Lowest level of assurance

What we do
We present information that is the representation of management, relying on our knowledge of accounting principles and your business.
The report
No opinion or assurance is expressed.
Often needed for
Banks often require compilations from an independent CPA as part of lending covenants.

03 The record

Trusted by the agencies that audit everyone else.

For more than three decades, federal Inspectors General, agencies and local governments have engaged the firm for financial and performance audits. The standards that hold up to that scrutiny are the ones applied to your monthly books and your tax return.
